CFR Clunj 1-1 Kimberlite Cutters

The Clunj picked up a point on their return to the Football Mundial leagues through a barely deserved 1-1 draw with Kimberlite Cutters. It was probably one of our poorest ever performances, but this was partly understandable by the fact that a lot of us hadn't played football for nearly a month and that it will take some getting used to the style of football again at Mundial. Having played the last four seasons at PlayFootball where the gameplay is totally different, it showed in last night's game as we were often left with no attacking options up front, with players unsure of when to go forward and when to stay back.

Any hopes we had of going another full season without conceding a goal were dashed midway through the first half, as the opposition easily passed their way through our static defence for a simple finish. They then could quite easily have found themselves 2 or 3-0 up, as within the space of a few seconds they twice struck the inside of our post as we continuously got caught flat-footed at the back. With us only managing a couple of weak efforts at the other end, we were rather fortunate that the score was only 0-1 as the whistle went for half time.

The second period saw us improve a little as we got on the ball and tried to pass it about a bit more, but there were still numerous times when we gave possession away under no pressure due to a lack of communication. We did manage to create a few opportunities though, with Paul firing off-target and then Dawson shooting wide after being played through (although he wasn't helped by having to play in his casual shoes having had to remove his moulded boots at the start of the game!).

The equaliser did eventually come for the Clunj however as Joe latched onto Dawson's pass and found the bottom corner, despite it looking like Seddy had handled the ball in the build up. Making his debut for us in goal, Sam Lowther then had to make a couple of neat stops to prevent the opposition snatching a late winner, as they also failed to hit the target with a number of decent chances. But in the end there were no more goals, and considering how poorly we played we can be pretty satisfied with a point.

CFR Clunj 7-5 Pulled All Over United

In what looks to be our last game at PlayFootball, the Clunj went out with a win as they beat Pulled All Over United 7-5. Beginning the game by playing some of the best football we've played in weeks, we stormed into a 4-0 lead in no time at all. In what eventually proved to be a man of the match performance, Seddy was the man to get the scoring under way as he fired under their keeper on the turn after running onto Dawson's pass. Goal scorer then turned provider, as he slid the ball in behind their defence for Joe to finish tidily into the corner.

After surprisingly going 3 games without a goal, Danny then made it 3-0 with good footwork leaving their keeper on the floor for a simple tap-in. Minutes later, Joe grabbed his second of the match as Adam turned into space and cut the ball across to him on the edge of the box. However, the opposition then pulled a goal back through a strong run and finish by their lad down the left, before an unfortunate deflection left Webbo with no chance as they got it back to 4-2 by the break.

The early stages of the second half saw us extend our lead as Joe again got free and finished coolly following Seddy's through ball. But, virtually straight from the restart they grabbed another goal back as their player ran straight through the middle of us and thumped into the top corner. With the opposition living up to their name of Pulled All Over United, Joe was then yet again played in by Seddy to make it 6-3; a goal that should really have sealed the tie.

We disappointingly let them back in with a sniff though, as firstly their lad got in with a free run to find the bottom corner, before another fortunate goal went in as the ball looped up out of a challenge and dropped perfectly over Webbo's head and into the net to make it 6-5. Despite them then increasing the pressure in the search for an equaliser, we began to slow the game down, and Dawson caught them out on the break late on with a thumping left foot strike sealing the victory for the Clunj.

CFR Clunj 13-2 BD United

CFR Clunj returned to winning ways with a 13-2 victory over BD United in a game that saw us only play the second half of the tie. As the opponents failed to show up in time for the first period, we were automatically given an 8-0 head start, but still went on to win the rest of the game quite comfortably. Luke was the first on the scoresheet for us, as he latched onto Adam's clearance downfield and fired into the bottom corner, before he grabbed his second soon after with a smart turn and finish on the edge of the box.

A deflected shot off Dawson then saw them pull a goal back to make it 10-1, but JK restored our lead shortly after with a tap-in after Danny had cleverly played the ball back off the wall. A second goal for JK soon followed as he found space down the right hand side and fired in a powerful strike, before they scored again as poor marking let their guy cut inside and finish too easily.

Despite the other team keeping the ball quite well at times though, they struggled to turn their possession into chances, and were also quite poor at the back. The Clunj therefore took full advantage of this as another swift counter attack saw JK complete his hattrick after a decent run and finish made it 13-2. Despite the victory however, it was another week that had its problems (not for the first time this season), and so it could well turn out to be our last at PlayFootball.

CFR Clunj 4-14 El Classico

CFR Clunj beat their unwanted record of biggest ever defeat (that had only been set 2 weeks prior) as they were humiliated 14-4 by El Classico. Despite a hattrick from Rob and one for Dawson, we were well and truly outplayed in one of our worst ever performances as a side.

CFR Clunj 7-4 Con Air

CFR Clunj returned to winning ways with a 7-4 victory against an albeit improved Con Air side, who since consistent early season hammerings now appear to have replaced some of their younger lads with bigger, stronger players (although in truth, they were still a poor team and the scoreline did flatter them a little). After defeats in our previous 2 games we knew we had to pick up 3 points, and we started the game quite well as a goalkeeping error saw their lad fumble the ball between his own legs to give us an early lead.

Dawson soon made it 2-0 with a well struck free kick, before a misplaced backpass off the wall left their player with a simple chance from close range to pull a goal back. But Joe went on to restore our advantage minutes later with a trademark goal, cutting in from the left-hand side and finishing cooly into the bottom corner. Yorkie then made a top save for us as he somehow managed to get his trailing leg to a well struck free kick, before we further extended our lead with a quickfire double from Luke. Returning to the side after a few weeks out injured, his first was a typical bursting run and finish through the middle, with the second coming via a simple tap-in after the ball had rebounded nicely to him on the edge of the box.

Despite such a comfortable lead and performance in the first half, the start of the second proved to be a terrible period for us as we conceded 3 goals in quick succession to somehow let Con Air back into the game. An unchallenged strike from distance had started the comeback for them, before poor positioning led to a 3-on-1 attack that Yorkie stood no chance with as it was dispatched into the bottom corner. They also had a big brute of a bloke playing for them who seemed to intimidate some of our players a little, and after barging his way past two of our defenders, he cut the ball across the box for a simple tap-in to make it 5-4.

We eventually managed to get back in control of things though, and Adam relieved the pressure somewhat after winning the ball in the middle and bursting through their defence to score and make our lead more comfortable. Chance after chance then started to come for us, and after managing to hit the crossbar 3 or 4 times, we eventually grabbed goal number 7 as Luke's free kick teed up Joe for a sweet strike to seal the victory.

CFR Clunj 8-0 Odd One Out

With Odd One Out pulling out of the game late on (and now seemingly having withdrawn from the league), we were automatically awarded a default 8-0 win.

CFR Clunj 2-12 Pato

CFR Clunj suffered their second defeat in a row as they were thumped 12-2 by Pato, our biggest ever loss since the team was formed. A disasterous first half in which Rob was also shown a blue card, meant that the game was virtually over by half time. Despite an improved performance in the second period which included 2 goals from JK, the Clunj were deservedly beaten, although it must be taken into account that we were missing 6 regulars from the side.
